About
← Back to Backlog.fyiWhat and why
Backlog.fyi was created to deal with the seemingly endless stream of new tasks, appointments, and reminders that life keeps throwing at us. The hardest ones are the tasks that don't need immediate attention — the ones that are easy to forget about, until it's too late.
Backlog.fyi is built to fix that, and it follows two basic principles:
- Capture is cheap. Tasks should land in a backlog the moment you think of them — from the web app, from a Telegram message, from a script or an AI assistant through the API.
- Committing is the hard part. Once a week you sit down with an assistant that knows your backlog, and you agree on what actually fits in the week ahead. Whatever you agree to goes out as calendar invitations, so it lands as real time in your week.
That way nothing slips through the cracks, and you can finally find that bit of motivation to commit — and tick your tasks off the list.
It's a solo, non-commercial side project — no team, no investors, no ads, and nothing here is funded by selling your data or training models on it.
It's also free to use. The AI features do cost real money to run, so they come with usage limits; if that bill ever outgrows a hobby budget, the plan is to ask heavy users to chip in rather than change the paragraph above.
Status
Backlog.fyi is in open beta: it's in daily use, actively developed, and new features keep arriving. Keeping your data safe and the service running is the top priority.
Sensitive data — your email address, your task titles and descriptions — is encrypted at rest. See the Privacy Policy for the details and the Terms of Service for the rest.
Who's behind it
The software behind Backlog.fyi is built by Itay Polack-Gadassi (GitHub, LinkedIn). Its source code is public on GitHub under the AGPL-3.0 license, so anyone can run their own instance.
